Tha facade south of Palazzo Cennini includes the tower known as Torre Buitoni. It is a three- storey building rich in frescoes dating back to the 16th century, with two chapels.
It is one of the town’s photographic landmarks, and was brought to its current appearance only within the last few decades. It was built in the 1300s and in the last century was the private residence of the founders of the Italian Buitoni brand, whose descendants still live in Paciano.
Nowadays it is still a residence of the Buitoni family and on particular cultural or festive occasions it is also possible to visit the building. One wing of the building has become a hotel. Occasionally during campaigns of the FAI foundation and presentations by authors in the context of TrasiMemo’s Encounters with Authors, it has been possible to visit the stunning apartments.
We should not forget that work and friendship brought Giovanni Buitoni near to Luisa Spagnoli, the founder of the popular chocolate and sweets industry and the Perugina brand, best known for its Bacio chocolate that has become popular worldwide thanks to its romantic shape and its good taste.
