The Public library is located on the first floor of Palazzo Baldeschi in the town centre. Books and volumes dedicated to literature, poetry, human sciences and technologies are stored there. There is also a specific room for children with both English and Italian texts. The library is a focal point for a variety of cultural projects such as “Nati per Leggere” (Born to Read) and “InVitro”. Activities and events involving the local schools and the community take place here all year round: “Trasimemo”, encounters with authors, childhood in the library, “il Maggio dei Libri”, workshops and conferences.
The library has been recently set up thanks to the cooperation of a group of registered volunteers called “gli Amici della Biblioteca” (Friends of the Library), who worked for months with the town administration.
Volunteering has been possible also thanks to a big donation made by the late Vittorio Losito, a resident of Paciano. Losito, painter and intellectual, stayed in Paciano for years, where he cultivated his passion for studying and for painting. The library hosts ninety of his paintings that were given on a free loan to the Comune.
Also within the library is a multimedia centre and a section dedicated to publications concerning the environment and peace, a project jointly managed by the INTRA association (the Library of Saved Books) and the Centro Terzo Millennio (Third Millennium Centre).
