Also on the first floor of Palazzo Baldeschi is the Centro Terzo Millennio, created by the international association Third Millennium Foundation to honour its founder, former Paciano resident David McTaggart. The Canadian environmentalist and peace activist was a leading figure in the founding of Greenpeace International and for many years its president.
The Centre organises educational activities for the schools and awareness programmes for the wider public. These have included community-wide participation in the annual European Week for Waste Reduction and litter clean-ups, Earth Day celebrations, important symposia on climate change and initiatives in support of world peace.
In 2015 a community project launched by the Centre involved the folding of 1000 origami peace cranes for the Children’s Monument in Hiroshima to mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing. A peace concert and poetry reading in 2016 honoured Paciano’s entry into the international association ‘Mayors for Peace‘ .
In June 2017 the Centre organised a public forum featuring some leaders of the Italian peace movement, where it was agreed that every two years Paciano should host an international laboratory offering in-depth analyses on the global themes of peace, nuclear disarmament and non-violence, called the “Paciano dialogues”.
